The Japanese yen continues to be under pressure against the backdrop of a rebound in risk assets, but its decline has been significantly limited by the expected shift in policy from the Bank of Japan. As market sentiment in Asia improved and the appeal of safe-haven assets declined, the yen continued to remain weak in early Asian trading on Tuesday.

On the other hand, recent signals from the Bank of Japan have strengthened market bets on the possibility of raising interest rates. "Japan's economic and inflation prospects are gradually meeting the conditions for normalization of monetary policy." Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said on Monday.

The market responded quickly, and the current probability of betting on an interest rate hike at the December 18-19 meeting has risen to about 80%, much higher than the 60% last week. This has pushed Japan's short-term government bond yields to continue to rise, with the two-year yield rising to 1% for the first time since 2008, and the long-term yield also hitting multi-year highs.

At the same time, the Japanese financial department also released a signal to intervene in the foreign exchange market again. Finance Minister Katayama Satsuki said that recent exchange rate fluctuations are "not in line with fundamentals," suggesting that the Japanese government may take action at any time to prevent the yen from rapidly depreciating, which further limited the extent of the yen's decline.

In terms of the U.S. dollar, weaker-than-expected U.S. manufacturing data suppressed the U.S. dollar’s rebound momentum. The latest ISM manufacturing PMI fell to 48.2, not only in contraction territory for the ninth consecutive month, but also deepening market concerns about a slowdown in the U.S. economy.

According to market surveys, investors believe that the probability of the Federal Reserve cutting interest rates by 25 basis points in December has risen to nearly 88%, further weakening the appeal of the U.S. dollar. The cooling of the U.S. economy is in sharp contrast to expectations of Japanese interest rate hikes, limiting the upside of the U.S. dollar against the yen.

From the daily structure, the US dollar against the yen has been rising since 15After falling back from the 8.00 high, it continued to fluctuate and consolidate within the downward channel. It received strong support in the 154.70 area on Monday. This range is not only the 61.8% retracement of the November rally, but also the lower track of the downward channel, which has strong technical significance.

As long as the exchange rate fails to effectively break through the upper track of the 156.00 channel, the rebound may still be blocked and retest the 155.00 psychological mark. If it falls below the lower track of the channel, the downside target may extend to the 153.80–154.00 area.

On the contrary, if the daily closing is stable above 156.00, the short-term trend may be reversed, with further rebound pointing to 157.00 and 157.50.
