West Texas Intermediate Oil (WTI) futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) fell more than 1%, close to $62.00 during the European trading session on Friday. Oil prices have fallen near the lower limit of the weekly range as investors begin to consider the impact of OPEC+ members' dramatic increase in production in the short term.
The latest report shows that the planned increase in oil production has increased significantly, which has put heavy pressure on oil prices. OPEC+ will increase its daily production by 411,000 barrels (bpd) starting in May, tripling the planned 138K barrels, according to Reuters.
Some OPEC+ members, including Kazakhstan, say underutilization of production capacity is harming their oil fields, which makes them prioritize the goals of national interest groups.
The Kazakhstan energy minister told Reuters on Wednesday that the country cannot limit the production of independent oil giants in its territory and will not close its own fields because it will damage future production.
At the same time, Beijing's denial of any news about the Sino-US trade deal has once again exacerbated uncertainty about the outlook for oil demand. This week, U.S. President Donald Trump said "the discussion with Beijing is going well", adding that he believes "they will reach a deal."
